StoryCheck (“StoryCheck”, “we”, “us”) builds private phone-number reports based on user-provided information, publicly available data, partner data, and licensed third-party data providers. By using StoryCheck you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information we collect

  • Phone numbers, country codes, and search inputs you submit.
  • Optional contextual answers you provide during a search.
  • Email address and any optional details (such as an email or image of a third party) you provide to enrich a report.
  • Payment information needed to complete checkout, processed by our payment processor.
  • Usage and device data, including IP address, browser, device identifiers, and pages visited, collected automatically through cookies and similar technologies.
  • Information we generate, including report results, confidence scores, and inferences derived from the above.

2. How we use information

  • To run phone-number searches against authorized providers.
  • To deliver, store, and improve your reports.
  • To process payments, manage subscriptions, and prevent fraud.
  • To send you transactional messages and, where you have opted in, marketing communications.
  • To measure and improve our advertising, and to maintain the quality and security of the service.

3. Email communications and consent

When you provide your email address, you consent to receive service-related (transactional) emails. If you also opt in to marketing, you consent to receive promotional emails from StoryCheck. You can withdraw marketing consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email. This email consent is separate from, and does not constitute, authorization to charge your payment method; billing authorization is given separately at checkout.

4. Cookies and tracking

We and our partners use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies (including the Meta Pixel and server-side conversion measurement) to operate the site, remember your preferences, measure conversions, and support advertising. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect functionality.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information with:

  • Service providers and data partners (such as phone intelligence, identity enrichment, breach, and people-search providers) who process data on our behalf under contract.
  • Payment processors to complete and secure transactions.
  • Advertising and analytics partners to measure and improve campaigns.
  • Authorities or other parties where required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect rights, safety, and property.
  • A successor entity in connection with a merger or acquisition.

6. Data accuracy and sources

Report data is drawn from third-party providers, public records, and user inputs. This information may be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, or associated with the wrong person, and StoryCheck does not independently verify it. Results are informational only. StoryCheck does not guarantee identity ownership and is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA.

7. Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Reports are typically available in your account for a limited period and may be deleted thereafter.

8. Your choices and rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, to opt out of certain sharing, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise these rights, including access and deletion requests, by contacting support. We will respond as required by applicable law, including the CCPA and GDPR where they apply.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above, and continued use of the service after a change constitutes acceptance.

Results are informational and may not be complete or accurate. StoryCheck does not guarantee identity ownership. StoryCheck is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and may not be used for employment, tenant, credit, or insurance decisions.
