Who owns this email address?
Had a suspicious email, or messaging someone you are unsure about? Check the address before you reply.
A reverse lookup on an email address works from the address back to the person: accounts and profiles openly linked to it, appearances in known data breaches, which reveals where it was registered and roughly how long it has existed, and risk signals such as a recently registered domain or a disposable mail service. The check is private, the owner is never notified, and results are possible matches rather than certainty.
Linked accounts
Where the address appears openly: profiles, sign-ups and usernames that recur on other platforms.
Breach history
If the address appears in known breaches, each record reveals which service it was registered with and roughly when, which builds a picture of its age.
Scam signals
Disposable addresses, recently registered domains, and known phishing and fake-shop patterns.
Common questions
How do I find out who owns an email address?
Through a reverse lookup on the address: it shows linked accounts and profiles, breach history and risk signals. The part before the @ is usually a username that recurs elsewhere too, and it is worth searching separately inside quotation marks.
Will the owner know I checked their address?
No. No email is sent and nothing is touched on their accounts. The check reads only publicly available information and licensed sources.
How do I spot a scam email?
By pressure and deadlines, demands for payment, links to sign-in pages, and a sender address that only resembles the real domain. When in doubt, contact the organisation through its official website, never through the link in the message.
Can I use the results to check a tenant or a customer?
No. StoryCheck is not a credit reference agency and results are intended for personal use such as safety and fraud protection. They must not be used for decisions about credit, employment, insurance or letting a property.
